Canadian online casino banking has its own quirks compared to the US, UK, or EU markets. INTERAC e-Transfer dominates because it is the country's default consumer money-movement rail; credit cards face structural friction from card-issuer policies; and cryptocurrency is excluded from the regulated Ontario market entirely. Understanding these three dynamics is most of what you need to know to pick the right method.
INTERAC e-Transfer is operated by the consortium of Canadian banks (RBC, TD, Scotiabank, CIBC, BMO, etc.) and moves money directly between bank accounts without any card network in the middle. That gets you three things at the casino cashier: instant deposits, fee-free transactions on both sides, and the fastest withdrawals in the market (1–48 hours at most operators). Every iGaming Ontario-licensed operator supports it, and most offshore casinos serving Canadian players do too. If you only learn one method, learn this one.
Visa Credit and Mastercard Credit deposits at Canadian casinos frequently get coded by the card issuer as cash advances rather than purchases. That triggers cash-advance interest rates (typically 22–24% APR) starting on day one — no grace period — and a one-time cash-advance fee of C$3–C$10. Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit avoid this entirely because they pull from a chequing account, not a credit line. If you must use a card, use a Debit card. Many iGO-licensed operators decline credit cards outright for exactly this consumer-protection reason.
iGaming Ontario regulations require operators to use regulated fiat payment processors with verifiable Canadian-bank settlement paths. That definitionally excludes cryptocurrency, which has no central settlement authority. As a result, no iGO-licensed operator accepts crypto. Players in Ontario who want to use crypto must use offshore casinos, which are not provincially regulated but are not criminally prosecuted for individual play. For non-Ontario provinces, crypto-accepting offshore casinos are the only practical option for high-limit players.
Know-Your-Customer (KYC) verification is mandatory at every legitimate Canadian online casino before your first withdrawal. AGCO requires it of iGO-licensed operators; most reputable offshore operators require it too. Expect to provide a government-issued photo ID (driver's licence or passport) and a proof of address dated within the last 90 days (utility bill or bank statement). The first withdrawal typically takes longer because of this; subsequent withdrawals process at the operator's standard speed.

The exact flow is similar at every Canadian casino regardless of which payment method you choose. Six steps:
Withdrawals run the opposite direction with one important wrinkle: your first withdrawal at any operator triggers a one-time KYC check that adds a few hours to a day even at the fastest operators. Subsequent withdrawals process at the standard speed for your method.
Typical timelines, fastest to slowest:
If a withdrawal sits "pending" longer than the operator's stated maximum, contact support with screenshots — and at iGO operators, escalate to iGaming Ontario if unresolved.
Payment-method-level security is rarely the weak link in Canadian online gambling. The bigger risk factor is whether the casino itself is licensed. iGaming Ontario operators are required to maintain segregated player funds, follow AGCO Standards for Internet Gaming, and submit to regular audits. For non-Ontario players using offshore operators, prioritise eCOGRA-certified casinos with published RTP averages and audited fairness reports.
Method-level security at every payment type covered on this page meets or exceeds banking-industry standards (256-bit SSL, 3-D Secure 2.0 for cards, biometric + tokenization for mobile wallets, cryptographic for crypto). End-to-end the security profile is strong; the variability is in operator licensing, not method.

Every method on this page was tested by depositing real Canadian dollars into a real account at a Canadian online casino, playing, and withdrawing. Withdrawal timings are stopwatched. Fees are checked at the cashier page, not from marketing material. Operator acceptance is verified inside the logged-in cashier, not from the homepage. Reviews are refreshed weekly for live data and quarterly for full re-test.
