Why CanadaCasinos Exists
Canada opened its first regulated private online gambling market in Ontario in April 2022. For the first time, players in the country's largest province had access to a licensed, consumer-protected iGaming environment. But with dozens of operators entering the market simultaneously, the quality of information available to players was inconsistent, often commercially compromised, and rarely grounded in the actual regulatory framework.
CanadaCasinos was built to fix that. Our goal is simple: give Canadian players, journalists, and regulators access to unbiased, data-grounded intelligence about the country's iGaming market. That means independent casino reviews based on real testing, continuous regulatory monitoring, educational content grounded in actual game mathematics, and free player tools that help people make better decisions.
We earn commission when readers visit casino sites through our links. That revenue funds our editorial operation. It does not influence our scores, rankings, or compliance assessments in any way. Our full affiliate disclosure is published and permanent.
Our Review Methodology
Our review process is built around a 50-point scoring framework developed by our editorial team over years of working within the iGaming industry. No single criterion determines a score. No operator can purchase a higher placement. The methodology is fixed and applied identically to every casino we evaluate.
Our Regulatory Position
CanadaCasinos operates with full awareness of the regulatory environment that governs iGaming affiliate and media activity in Canada. Our compliance approach is proactive, not reactive: we do not wait for enforcement to establish internal standards.
AGCO Registrar Standard 2.05 prohibits the communication of bonus and promotional inducements in advertising and marketing materials except on the operator's own licensed gaming site, following active player consent. We comply strictly with this standard. Ontario users do not see bonus or promotional information related to AGCO-licensed operators on this site. This is not optional: it is a legal and ethical requirement we have embedded into our editorial and technical processes.
Alberta's iGaming Alberta Act (Bill 48, March 2025) established the Alberta iGaming Corporation as the province's regulator and conduct-and-manage body. The market is expected to launch in 2026. We are monitoring operator application timelines, responsible gambling framework requirements, and any affiliate or media standards that AGLC develops. We will implement the Alberta equivalent of our Ontario compliance framework before the market opens, and will not publish bonus-related content in relation to AGLC-licensed operators unless permitted to do so.
In provinces where government monopolies operate (British Columbia via BCLC, Quebec via Loto-Quebec, Manitoba and others), we publish informational content about the regulated options available to players. We do not promote offshore or grey-market operators as alternatives to regulated provincial platforms.
Who We Are
A small, named editorial team. Every review, guide, and regulatory explainer on the site is produced or reviewed by one of the people below. Full author profiles live on our contributors page.
Co-founder & Lead Researcher
Ben co-founded CanadaCasinos.io with Matt Denney. Alongside the site, he runs his own technical support and research company in the packaging industry, where customer trust lives or dies on reading specs carefully and handling problems honestly. He doesn't gamble. Owns the site's research methodology and the rule that every claim on the site links to a primary source.
Co-founder & Editorial Director
Matt Denney is the Editorial Director at CanadaCasinos.io, where he leads editorial strategy, sets content standards, and oversees the internal review process for all new and updated pages prior to publication. His work centres on translating complex regulatory and licensing frameworks, including the AGCO Standards for Internet Gaming, provincial requirements, and operator terms, into clear, practical guidance for Canadian players. Matt also reviews high-priority content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the site’s editorial methodology.
Player Experience Editor
Sara Misra is the Games Editor and Responsible Gambling Lead at CanadaCasinos.io. She reviews slot and table games for RTP, mechanics, volatility, and player experience, and she owns the Responsible Gambling hub — deposit limits, self-exclusion, time-outs, reality checks, and provincial helplines.
